A SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS FOR THE DAYS WE LIVE IN Friends, if you do nothing else this Sunday, I want to make sure you attend Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. It's our "Questions of Life" class. This week may be the most important week we've had yet this fall / early winter. Several NWC African-American students will be sharing with the body of Christ their experiences with racism. Chances are, most of us have not experienced racism directly and may be blind to our own tendencies (I am becoming more aware that I am). And so I asked Pastor Bob to arrange this class for us to listen to experiences of others who have walked through life differently from the majority of us. And, as you will see, the topic fits with our preaching text of the day in Isaiah 61.
We've been asking the question about our waiting, but on Sunday we'll ask it of God. God proclaims in Isaiah 61:2 "the year of the Lord's favor." 600 years later, Jesus will quote these same words in a Sabbath sermon in Nazareth, his hometown. And, right after he speaks them, he says, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." Jesus proclaims the year of God's favor and then says it has been fulfilled.
What is God waiting for?
The answer that Isaiah 61 gives may surprise you. It did me. In the midst of telling us who God is and who we are, this text gives marching orders for what God is waiting for. Listen for the job God's precious, redeemed, and liberated people are to be about.
We will also meet 4 students who will profess their faith in Christ publicly (Alex Brower, Maggie Winn, Morgan Tilgner, and Eli TeGrotenhuis).

AND THE CAFE WILL BE SELLING COFFEE!
We have an exciting opportunity for the holiday season! The café will be selling individual bags of ground and whole bean coffee in 1 lb. bags, starting on Sunday. You can pick from Regular, Decaf, and Hazelnut. The Hazelnut only comes in ground coffee. Each bag will cost $12 and proceeds will go to help pay for coffee and supplies in the café and Ethiopia Reads. Coffee makes a great Christmas gift!
